Dominique Bathenay, former defensive midfielder and captain of Paris Saint-Germain (1978-1985), was invited by PSG TV to talk about this Saturday’s Champions League final against Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena (kick-off 9pm, CET). He underlined his hope that Paris will come out on top.
Bathenay “The game and the state of mind. This PSG has it all.
“How do you feel ahead of the final?
There’s this trophy to win, a final is always a great moment. PSG have what it takes to win, they’ve got the game and the spirit. They can do it and bring the trophy back to Paris.”
What impresses you most about this team?
To reach the Champions League final, you need several ingredients. The game and the state of mind. PSG has them all. The club has had a great season, and has a lot of fans and soccer lovers behind it.”
It’s hard not to agree with Bathenay, as this PSG team is such a source of hope. There are some very talented players, collective efforts, certainties in the game, the ability to react to difficulties… We haven’t seen them this armed for a long time. It’s at least reasonable to believe.
Unfortunately, Inter Milan also have their arguments and are not going to let themselves be beaten. Above all, we shouldn’t think that PSG can win easily. We’ll still need a great deal of collective and individual fighting spirit, with no doubt moments when we’ll have to suffer. We also know that a final like this can be decided by a little “success”. Even if the latter also tends to provoke itself at least a little.
Let’s hope PSG can turn this great evening of soccer in their favor. You never know when the next final will be.
