Paris Saint-Germain beat Inter Milan 5-0 on Saturday at the Allianz Arena in the final of the 2024-2025 Champions League. After the win, Paris coach Luis Enrique spoke to CBS Sports Golazo.
Al-Khelaïfi ‘We built, for the future too.’
Was the stress worth it?
It’s like a dream. I want to underline our respect for Inter Milan, who have had a fantastic season and deserve to be here. If someone had told me we’d win 5-0, I wouldn’t have believed them. The team has had an incredible season. We’ve built for the future too. All the work we’ve done isn’t going to change. We want to leave a legacy.
The real work starts today. We have to stay humble, football goes too fast. I’m very proud for the fans and for France. I’d like to thank the coach. It’s a fantastic moment. It’s not just Paris, it’s the whole of France. It deserves better, we have great players and great stadiums.
Al-Khelaïfi ‘Critics push me’.
You’ve been criticised a number of times, what has it been like for you mentally on this journey? There have been doubts, difficult nights, the remontada…
We’ve been heavily criticised, and we work hard for the club and French football, but there is criticism. It’s important for us, we’re working to achieve things. I knew it would come one day, I just didn’t know when.
The critics push me, it pushes me to prove them wrong. We have fantastic players and a fantastic coach. He believes in the club and its project. We’re heading in the same direction. Everyone believes in it, that’s what we want.
Al-Khelaïfi: ‘We felt that something special could happen’.
At what point did you start thinking about the LDC title ?
After the match against City, we could all feel the change in mentality. For the players, the fans, the media, everyone. Then we felt that something special could happen. It’s a fantastic victory.
