Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, reacted on the club’s official website to the Best Team award received at the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony on Monday. This distinction was awarded for PSG’s extraordinary 2024-2025 season.
Al-Khelaïfi: “We are also very proud to represent Paris, French football, and France on the international stage.”
“On behalf of everyone at Paris Saint-Germain, we extend our sincere thanks to the Awards Academy for this prestigious distinction. This recognition once again reflects the strength of our collective – at Paris Saint-Germain, the true star is the team, both on and off the pitch.
We are also very proud to represent Paris, French football, and France on the international stage, harnessing the power of sport to bring people together and make a positive impact.” These values are at the heart of the Laureus Awards, and that’s what makes this honor—being named Laureus World Team of the Year—so special for Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s a great achievement for PSG, which sees all its hard work recognized worldwide. It’s not as significant as winning titles, but it’s still a milestone in a club’s history. It’s also recognition for French football, with one of its clubs having made its mark in the Champions League. This helps dispel the notion that Ligue 1 isn’t strong enough to prepare for European competition, a notion that was widely heard not so long ago.
Of course, Ligue 1 now needs to work effectively, both at the governing body and club levels, to maintain a positive image and ensure its revenue and finances are well managed. All is not lost, contrary to what is regularly claimed in some media outlets. But there is progress to be made, that’s normal.
