On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 8 tie (0-1 video summary here). Speaking to PSG TV, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique expressed his frustration at the result, which was anything but deserved for both teams.
Enrique “we’re going to do the same thing over the next few weeks.”
“It’s difficult to talk about a game like this. We completely dominated the game, against one of the best teams in Europe. We have to think about being positive, analyze the game tomorrow, but I’m happy with the team’s performance and we have to think about changing this result.
This is not the time to look at things in a negative way. This is the time to be proud of our colors. Today, I think we showed that we can play against any opponent, and we’re going to do the same over the next few weeks.”
Wednesday was probably one of PSG’s best last-eight encounters, and at the same time one of their worst. After the 4-2 victory over Manchester City, we thought the page had been turned, and subsequent results proved that the Parisian team was on a different dynamic.
Unfortunately, on Wednesday PSG rediscovered what has plagued their entire start to the season. Outrageous domination, a lack of realism and a mistake that led to an unfortunate goal. Obviously, the Parisians have every chance of qualifying. But in these conditions, they will need to score very quickly to at least erase this frustrating lack of realism which has already cost them dearly this season.
