On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 8 tie (0-1 video summary here). On the sidelines of the match, 23-year-old defender William Pacho spoke to PSG TV about the defeat.
Pacho “I’m convinced we’ll win the game there.”
“It’s very difficult tonight. The truth is that we did a lot to deserve the win. But that’s soccer, things don’t always go our way. But now we have to pick ourselves up. We played an excellent match and we know what we can do. So I have confidence in my team, in who we are, and I know that if we do things right, we’ll get a good result there.
We always have to be positive. When you see the team’s desire to move forward, not to back down, to always want more… That’s what helps and inspires us to keep growing as a team, as players. I’m convinced we’ll win the game there.”
Unfortunately, this kind of result is difficult to manage for a team lacking experience. On the up since the 2-4 win over Manchester City, it was easy to believe that PSG’s demons were far behind them. But the game against Liverpool proved otherwise, and these unfair defeats are very hard to accept.
PSG now have six days to prepare as best they can for their trip to Anfield. There’s nothing to change in the game, and you only have to look at the statistics to understand that. The club from the capital can arrive with confidence, confident of their strengths and with a desire for revenge that can change everything. But we’re going to have to give even more to erase this unfair result and try to pull off a feat by winning by more than two goals.
