This Sunday, January 5, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco will face off in Doha for the Trophée des Champions 2024 (broadcast on DAZN, kick-off 5.30pm French time). According to RMC Sport, the Collectif Ultras Paris, PSG’s main supporters’ group, has made a strong choice for this match at Stadium 974.
“According to our information, no member of a Collectif Ultras Paris group will be taking part in this trip. This decision was taken “to be consistent with the Ultras movement, which cannot support this competition being played on the other side of the world, when several French cities could have hosted the event”.
But the main Parisian supporters’ group insists that its members remain free to do as they please. Only independents from the Auteuil virage would be allowed to attend.”
We remain cautious, as this is not an official CUP press release. And we’ve already seen the media launch into this, with a clear denial from the fans. But we can only hope that RMC Sport is not so randomly assertive.
Also, while it’s regrettable, it’s understandable that the group won’t be making the trip. It’s far away and expensive for a match that could very well have taken place in France. The choice of venue was made to attract other supporters. We can only hope that it will be a success, even if filling the stadium promises to be difficult. In any case, without the PSG Ultras, it’s hard to imagine that the atmosphere will be memorable.
