Paris Saint-Germain faced PSV Eindhoven at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday as part of matchday 3 of the 2024-2025 Champions League. After a match in which the Reds and Blues were clearly not realistic enough and drew 1-1 (PSG/PSV Eindhoven video summary). Here are our notes on the Parisians.
Gardien –
Gianluigi Donnarumma (5) – Another goal taken, not of his own making, and once again he avoided a clean sheet. He wasn’t in much danger overall, but he did well with his aerial runs for once.
Défenseurs –
Achraf Hakimi (7) – A good first half, he should have scored from his big chance. He was a bit nervous and almost pulled the pin. He came back well in the second half, with desire and legs of fire. He scored a great goal that felt good.
Marquinhos (6) –He can’t do much about the goal, he had a good first half overall, but the fact is that PSG took a goal, again… He made a save around the 60th minute. He had a good game.
Willian Pacho (7) – Nervous about Luuk de Jonk, he showed his quality. He hardly lost a single duel.
Nuno Mendes (5) – Some good phases, a few oversights, he’s not firing on all cylinders with PSG. Errors in reading the game are regrettable, but they cost PSG, who almost conceded a second goal at the worst possible moment.
Milieux –
Fabian Ruiz (3) – A more than neutral first half. His presence on the pitch is questionable when you see Vitinha on the bench. His performance did not speak in his favour. Replaced by Vitinha in the 59th minute.
Joao Neves (7) – Good first half from him. He gave a lot. He’s got a great character, he’s very mature, he’s a great talent in the making.
Warren Zaïre-Emery (6) – He had a great first half-hour, but then made less of an impact, although he did show his talent at times. A lot of activity all the same. He eased off in the second half, which is quite logical given the effort he put in. He needs to move on and be more decisive. Replaced by Désiré Doué in the 81st minute.
Attaquants –
Ousmane Dembélé (5) – He has the keys to the game and in the first half, he decided not to open the door with two incredible misses. He was also very attentive to PSV’s goal. Talent isn’t always enough, you need something extra and Dembélé didn’t have that in the first half. He made more of a difference in the second half, but his final touch was such a failure that it was laughable. Replaced by Senny Mayulu in the 81st minute.
Lee Kang-in (5) – Active, a bit scrappy, he tried but wasn’t really very dangerous. We expect more from him, of course. Especially in the Champions League. He moved around a lot, but wasn’t in the right areas at the right time. Nothing exceptional about this match. Replaced by Marco Asensio in the 68th minute.
Bradley Barcola (5) – Caught by two players, he had his chances, he has to score, that’s what top level is all about. He didn’t have a bad game, but he didn’t have the game of the year either. We expect better and more often. Replaced by Randal Kolo Muani in the 81st minute.
Entraîneur –
Luis Enrique (5) – His decision to do without Vitinha raised questions before the match. At half-time, it was seen as a mistake. He corrected it, a little late. His PSG are not scoring much in the LDC and are finding it difficult to win against ‘weaker’ teams. He must be questioning himself.
