This Sunday, May 13, Paris Saint-Germain (1st) take on Saint-Etienne (15th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off 8.45pm, broadcast on DAZN in France) as part of Matchday 17 of Ligue 1 2024-2025. And as before every match, here’s a presentation of the Parisians’ opponents.
Saint-Etienne’s situation –
In a very complicated period, Saint-Etienne went down to Ligue 2 in 2022 and won their way back up two years later. It was a busy summer, with a change of ownership to boot.
The revival has continued of late, after performances that raised concerns about relegation, as coach Eirik Horneland replaced Olivier Dall’Oglio last December. He began with an encouraging 3-1 victory over Reims, with Saint-Etienne now in 15th place in the league.

Saint-Etienne’s style of play.
It’s hard to get a clear picture with only one match played since the arrival of new coach Eirik Horneland. We have a 4-3-3 system, which is generally relatively reassuring, with the possibility of blocking and countering. It’s the most “logical” strategy when facing PSG, having had little time with the squad and being in 15th place in the standings.
