Aurélien Tchouaméni, 26, Real Madrid midfielder, praised Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory. In comments reported by L’Equipe, the French international congratulated his teammates on the national team, whom he will rejoin for the French national team.

Tchouaméni: “They deserve it”

“We were receiving treatment with quite a few players. We watched the final at the same time as (Moïse) Kouamé’s match (at Roland-Garros) on two screens. We’re happy for PSG. They deserve it. We were happy for all our teammates. It’s always good for the French national team to have so many players who are European champions.”

This statement is particularly significant because of what it reveals about the outside perspective on Paris. Tchouaméni plays for Real Madrid, a club accustomed to appreciating European successes. Seeing a key player for Les Bleus so readily acknowledge PSG’s achievement confirms that the Parisian victory isn’t only being celebrated in the capital.

There’s also a national team dimension to these words. PSG isn’t just sending players with titles to the national team; they’re sending players strengthened by a major victory. In a national team, this kind of experience carries weight. It instills confidence, raises expectations, and creates a new kind of legitimacy.

With the World Cup approaching, this Parisian triumph can therefore also become an asset for Les Bleus. Paris Saint-Germain won for itself, of course, but its success also bolsters the mental fortitude of a national team that will need players accustomed to the biggest occasions.
