Matvey Safonov, the 26-year-old goalkeeper who arrived at Paris Saint-Germain last summer from Krasnodar with a contract until 2029 and from Russia, has been blocked in a number 2 role by Gianluigi Donnarumma (26 years old). Enough to fuel some departure rumors in this transfer window. Sports Digitale announces today that the Russian has been offered to Galatasaray.
“Paris Saint-Germain has offered Matvey Safonov to Galatasaray!
Galatasaray has informed PSG that it will consider this offer if the club is unable to sign a world-class goalkeeper such as Ederson or someone of equivalent caliber!”
A relatively credible report, as Safonov’s place at the club seems somewhat uncertain. Lucas Chevalier appears close to signing from Lille, though it remains unclear whether Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave. Renato Marin (19) has arrived with an unclear role, and Arnau Tenas is still in the squad. The Russian goalkeeper could depart in search of more playing time.
PSG could be open to parting ways with him, especially as his salary might be seen as unnecessary — particularly with Galatasaray currently in the market for a first-choice goalkeeper. However, nothing is certain at this stage. This is still just a rumor. Safonov could also remain as PSG’s No. 2, continuing to compete for a place and trying to establish himself.
It’s a confusing situation for PSG in the goalkeeping department — we’ll have to wait for clearer answers.
