Matvey Safonov, the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, spoke to Canal+ following PSG’s 2-1 victory over Aston Villa this Wednesday at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup.
Safonov: “We showed that we’re in good shape and ready for the season.”
Another trophy—how do you do it?
It’s great; I suppose it’s business as usual now. It’s excellent, especially starting the season with a trophy. We haven’t had much training time yet—it hasn’t been long. I think we showed that we’re in good shape and ready for the season. It’s a fantastic start to the season.
Safonov: “It’s about everyone together.”
Is the collective effort the key?
Yes, the goal is to show that the team is about everyone together—everyone in the dressing room, both on and off the pitch. Everyone felt that, and we also have to congratulate Fabián Ruiz on his trophy and his World Cup win. He arrived last—just two or three days ago—and we celebrated that together as well.
