Paris Saint-Germain won 4-0 against Atalanta on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes, in the first matchday of the 2025-2026 Champions League. After this victory, PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (23) spoke to the media in the mixed zone. He enjoyed this great success, looked ahead to the match in Marseille on Sunday (matchday 5 of Ligue 1) and addressed the injuries.
Chevalier: “It certainly sends a strong message.”
Does PSG send a message?
That was the goal; PSG are the defending champions, so we had to show that the level would be the same for this new season. Atalanta dominated the first ten minutes… It certainly sends a strong message.
The team is motivated and confident, ready to achieve great things. You can feel a club that wants to win another trophy. Since I arrived, I feel a club that is very confident and calm, as if winning the Champions League has lifted a weight off their shoulders.
Chevalier: “It seems very easy to play with them; we feel confident.”
Enjoying life at PSG?
I’m enjoying it, I’m surprised because it’s amazing. If I compare it to my previous team, there are more individual skills, more control; it seems very easy to play with them, we feel confident.
Chevalier: “It’s the rival club, the club to beat.”
A special match against OM, a chance to be quickly accepted or cause problems?
It’s football. First of all, we won 4-0 against Atalanta. We have to emphasize that. We are happy to have started so well. We showed that we are here this season. An important match is coming up on Sunday, in Marseille, it’s a Classique. We will go there to win. There won’t be any problems; we’ll give our all. It’s our rival club, the team we have to beat. I’m a Paris Saint-Germain player today, and I’ll give everything for my club, just like I did in Lille against Lens. These are fantastic matches, a great stadium, passionate fans—but we’re confident. We’re on the right track.
How is the preparation for the match going?
Our approach to the match is always calm; there isn’t much that changes whether we’re playing Lens or Atalanta. It’s comfortable for the players because it allows us to approach the match calmly.
Chevalier: “We always manage to field a competitive team”
Are the injuries a cause for concern?
No, we don’t want to be worried because, for now, it’s manageable. We always manage to field a competitive team. But it’s certain that this year, we’ll have to manage the situation carefully, given last season and the number of matches played.
Perhaps things will get a little tighter. But we really feel every day that the coaching staff wants to give the players some rest and allow them some days off. After all, it’s football; you never know what might happen. But we certainly hope it doesn’t continue like this.
