Paris Saint-Germain hosted Atalanta Bergamo at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday and won 4-0 for Matchday 1 of the Champions League league stage. After the game, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG’s 24-year-old forward and scorer on the night, spoke to PSG TV about the win.
Kvaratskhelia: “I think we played a good game”
“I think today was our day. I’m very happy that the team won by such a wide margin. I think we played a good game and played very well, which is important. My goal? I think my teammates also scored some beautiful goals. Today, the team was very strong.”
Kvaratskhelia: “We know what this match means for our fans”
“Every match helps us prepare for the next one, and we know our next opponent is Marseille, so we’re preparing well. We know what this match means for our fans, so we’ll try to do our best and prepare thoroughly.”
It was a perfect start to the campaign for the reigning champions, sending a clear message to all their rivals. In a tricky situation with several key players missing, PSG needed to make a statement in their opening Champions League match — and did so with an impressive 4–0 victory, controlling the game from start to finish.
Attention now turns to Olympique de Marseille this Sunday. It will be a tough away league fixture, but if PSG can replicate this level of play, they could once again delight their supporters by taking all three points.
