Paris Saint-Germain hosted Stade Brestois this Sunday for Matchday 33 of Ligue 1 and won 1-0. Speaking to PSG TV, Luis Enrique, the Parisian club’s coach, reflected on his players’ performance.
Luis Enrique: “I think we are champions”
“We are champions, I can say that, right? 99.9%. And I think it’s deserved. There are still two matches to play, but I think we have a significant lead on goal difference. Mathematically, there’s still a little bit to go, but I think we are champions.
This won’t change how we’ll play next Wednesday, and also on Sunday against Paris FC. We’ll prepare for these matches individually, to arrive at the Champions League final on May 30th in the best possible condition.”
PSG found a way through on Sunday and secured a victory on the pitch, almost officially clinching their new French league title. While they will have to wait until Wednesday’s match against second-placed RC Lens to definitively confirm it, the players are already celebrating with a six-point lead and a goal difference of +15.
This is therefore a first step completed for PSG, who can still achieve the double by adding the Champions League title before the end of the month. This first triumph at least rewards a team that gave 100% throughout the season, despite often exhausted players and a certain mental fatigue after the exceptional season they had a year ago.
