Paris Saint-Germain and Flamengo faced off this Wednesday in Doha as part of the 2025 Intercontinental Cup. The match ended with a Parisian victory on penalties (1-1, then 3-1 on penalties). After the match, the Brazilian team’s coach, Filipe Luis, spoke at a press conference.
Filipe Luis: “I’m very sad to have lost. But, at the same time, I’m very proud of my players.”
What are your feelings after the defeat?
I’m very sad to have lost. I don’t like losing, I don’t like this feeling. But, at the same time, I’m very proud of my players. What they accomplished today is historic for me. We were so close to the finish line. The penalty shootout.
Doing better against a team of this caliber is very difficult; it wasn’t possible. Our team is very strong mentally. It has been all year long in every final, at every stage of the competition. When the team needed it most, these players stepped up.
Filipe Luis: “A simply wonderful team.”
That was the case again today. They fought for every ball, every inch, every space on the pitch, against a simply wonderful team. I’m in awe.
It’s no surprise, given how they play, the good matches they put in, and the good coach they have. That’s why I’m even prouder of what my players have done, not just today, but throughout the entire season. And I’m very proud of them.
Filipe Luis: “It’s a masterpiece.”
A great team on the other side and a very good goalkeeper?
They’re strong in every aspect. PSG has an incredible team, and for me, the best coach, and that’s not just my opinion. Their performance is incredible, a masterpiece. I congratulate Luis Enrique and admire their quality. They deserve everything they’ve won. The goalkeeper is also very strong.
