Warren Zaïre-Emery, the 19-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, spoke to M6 after the penalty shootout victory (1-1, then 3-1) against Flamengo this Wednesday in Doha, in the final of the 2025 Intercontinental Cup.
Zaïre-Emery: “We’re proud of ourselves.”
Are you making history for PSG and France?
Tonight, it was all about the goal. We had a very clear objective: to come here to win. The coach told us not to give up, to play as usual. Honestly, we’re proud of ourselves. We played a very good match, a great final, against a very good team that played with a lot of intensity. We’re proud of ourselves, and we’re going to continue like this all season.
A special strength in penalty shootouts? When your back is against the wall?
This team has a lot of character. We’re a collective. That’s what the coach wanted; he’s always emphasized that: the team comes first. It shows the kind of team we are.
Zaïre-Emery: “Honestly, it feels good.”
Are you physically back to your best?
Honestly, it feels good to be like this, to play like this, to put in so much intensity. I have to keep going like this. There’s enormous room for improvement; I have to keep it up all season. This is just the beginning; the hardest part is yet to come.
