This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain faces Liverpool at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Christophe Dugarry, the 1998 World Cup winner and now a pundit, discussed the match with RMC, offering his own unique analysis.

Dugarry: “In my opinion, the difference in level is colossal.”

“It’s going to be a walk in the park, honestly. Liverpool are disastrous. 14 wins, 10 losses, and 7 draws since the start of the season in the league. They’re catastrophic. I’m not going to say they have bad players, but they don’t play together. In my opinion, the difference in level is colossal. I think PSG will wrap up the quarter-final in the first leg.”

Dugarry: “They’re playing at a snail’s pace.”

“Do you see Liverpool playing? They’re catastrophic! They have no legs, they have nothing.” Technically, they have good players, they’re not clumsy, but they’re playing at a snail’s pace. Just think, they just conceded four against Manchester City, who we saw against Real Madrid… Momentum is crucial in the second half of the season.

Predicting an easy Champions League quarter-final is nonsense. Even if Liverpool is going through a slightly rough patch, they remain one of the best clubs in Europe, with all the experience that comes with it. These players know very well how to approach this type of match and, above all, how to pull off an upset. Being in a difficult period, they know perfectly well that the Champions League can salvage their season.

Such a situation can galvanize them and allow them to be on the pitch at 200% against this Parisian team. Obviously, PSG needs to play their two best matches of the season to secure a place in the semi-finals. But to announce a walk in the park is totally inconsistent when you know even a little about this competition and the feats that take place there.
