Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final (second leg on April 14). After this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke to CBS Sports.
Luis Enrique: “Everyone loves watching these kinds of matches.”
Is the team closest to your PSG the Barcelona of Pep Guardiola?
(laughs) I don’t know, it’s different, different teams. You can’t really compare them. The way we try to play is beautiful, joyful. We’ve been working like this for three years at PSG. Today, everyone loves watching these kinds of matches.
Luis Enrique: “You never score enough, especially when you have to go to Anfield.”
Have you scored enough?
You never score enough, especially when you have to go to Anfield. We deserved the victory. It’s perhaps a shame not to score a third goal, given that we had clear chances. But that’s how it is, and we’re focused on what’s next.
Can your players be intimidated at Anfield?
No, we have an experienced team, even if it’s young. We’ve won the Champions League. Today, the connection with the fans was special. The Parc des Princes is one of the best stadiums in the world. We know Anfield is special; we’ve played there. We’re looking forward to it.
Luis Enrique: “We want to continue making history.”
Do you feel you’re going to win the Champions League again?
(smiles) Last season, we tried to make history by winning the first one, and we did it; it was superb. We couldn’t really celebrate with the Club World Cup. Now, we want to continue making history, which means winning major trophies. We’ll try.
