Warren Zaïre-Emery, the 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, stopped in the mixed zone after PSG’s 2-0 victory against Liverpool this Wednesday at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-finals (second leg on April 14).
Zaïre-Emery: “We’re also a little frustrated.”
What are your feelings after this first leg? Frustration with the missed opportunities?
Frankly, it’s a pleasure to have won this match. We know it’s going to be very difficult at Anfield. There’s always a degree of satisfaction when you win 2-0, but we’re also a little frustrated. When you have clear chances like that… It’s better to go to Anfield with three or four goals. We’re going to play with the same intentions, forward, with a high press, playing in their half and always giving everything with our pressing.
Did your European champion status instill fear in the opposition?
I don’t know, you’d have to ask the other teams. We’re confident. We know this part of the season is the best. We’re going to try to give it our all.
Zaïre-Emery: “We’re going to try to do the same.”
A word about the fans?
Our fans, whether we win or lose, they’re always there. They’re exceptional fans. They’ll make a lot of noise at Anfield, we saw that last year. We’re going to try to make them happy.
Were you expecting Liverpool to sit so deep?
It’s quite difficult to come to the Parc des Princes and play with our pressing game. It will be different at Anfield; they’ll have their fans, they’ll be confident. But we’re going to try to do the same. It’s always complicated, but we love these matches and we’re going to do everything we can to win.
Zaïre-Emery: “It’s a pleasure to play with this team, with these players.”
39th consecutive start, how do you manage to keep it up? Do you want to take a break?
No (smiles). My goal is to play as much as possible. Honestly, it’s a pleasure to play with this team, with these players. The group is exceptional. When I play, I’m happy, I’m pleased. The key is treatment and recovery. Playing these kinds of matches in a row is always difficult, but I feel good.
