Warren Zaïre-Emery, the 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, spoke to the press following PSG’s 1-0 victory over Troyes this Saturday at the Parc des Princes, as part of matchday 10 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season.
Zaïre-Emery: “You can feel that we are a group, a family—that’s what matters most.”
A difficult match?
Every match is difficult. We try to approach them all the same way: by setting our own tempo, pressing the opposition, and creating as many chances as possible. We know that breaking down a low defensive block is always a challenge, but we managed to find openings. We just needed to be a bit more clinical in front of goal to extend our lead.
Is this PSG side better than the one from this time last year?
I honestly couldn’t say (smiles). We’re a confident team, and things are going well. We approach every game the same way. You can feel that we are a group, a family—that’s what matters most.
Zaïre-Emery: “We’re very happy to be part of this team.”
PSG has entered the record books; does it mean a lot to be part of a team that is making history?
We’re very happy to be part of this team. As for records, I think those come naturally. Above all, we just enjoy playing football together—as a team—and giving everything we have for one another.
Is it good to have Paris FC as a competitor?
We try to focus on ourselves. Personally, I don’t look at the league table. As for the others, I’m not sure. We try to stay focused on ourselves, to deliver the best performances possible, and to hold the top spot.
Zaïre-Emery: “We’re proud to make them proud out on the pitch.”
The 35th anniversary of the Virage Auteuil?
It’s magnificent. The supporters have been behind us for 35 years—even longer, actually. It’s their 35th anniversary, and they’re always there, whether at home or away—no matter the match. They push us forward. We’re proud to make them proud out on the pitch.
Will you still be at PSG when you’re 35?
I don’t know; my body has to hold up, too (smiles). You know, we play a lot of matches, one after another, but we have everything we need to keep going.
Zaïre-Emery: “We managed to secure all the points.”
Do you focus on the 3 points, or on the frustration of not scoring more goals despite the chances created?
That’s football for you. Last year, there were matches where we’d take 20 shots and still end up losing. Sometimes we’re more clinical, other times a bit less so. That’s just football. We haven’t lost a single game between these two international breaks—that’s what matters most. We managed to take all the points available in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. The break will do us good. We’ll shift our focus to the national team, then come back in good shape afterward.
Zaïre-Emery: “It will be something special.”
How do you analyze your own development at PSG?
We try to improve every single day; the coach is there to provide instructions. We also have players with a bit more experience. I work hard in training every day—before and after sessions—to perform at the highest possible level. I always give the best of myself on the pitch.
As for reuniting with Zidane after my injury last time?
It was frustrating; I had gone to watch the match, and they welcomed me warmly. It will be something special—I’m really looking forward to it.
