Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2-0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais this Sunday at the Parc des Princes, as part of the 8th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. Following the match, PSG manager Luis Enrique spoke to Ligue1+.
Luis Enrique: “They are capable of making the difference.”
Could things have gone even better?
I am very happy with what I saw—with the team’s ability to play regardless of the match scenario.
Once again, substitutes—players who haven’t seen much action—made the difference.
That’s the key—that’s the key. Mayulu, Godts, Ndjantou, Dro, Beraldo—those who play a bit less—are capable of making the difference, and I am very happy for them.
Luis Enrique: “Every match has its own challenges.”
Did you play more down the flanks than usual?
Well spotted! Every match has its own challenges. Fonseca is a top-class coach; he always poses a lot of problems for us. He packs the center with players and employs a high defensive line, making it very difficult to find space. We tried to create numerical superiority on the wings. It was very tough in the first half, but our players put in a lot of running, which allowed us to find the space needed to score in the second half.
Luis Enrique: “I’m even happier than when it’s the starters who do it!”
Is it because you force the opposition to do so much running that your substitutes are able to make the difference?
If you intend to win every trophy—if you want to be prepared for that—you need the entire squad. The players train with a very positive attitude. As a coach, that’s a great source of motivation. When you see on the pitch that Mayulu and Godts are scoring, that Ndjantou is providing the assist, and that Beraldo is winning the ball back—I’m even happier than when it’s the regular starters doing it!
Are you going to watch the rest of the Ballon d’Or ceremony?
Well… I’d rather enjoy the moment with the players.
