This Sunday, as part of Matchday 30 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain faced Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes. Clinton Mata, the 33-year-old Lyon defender, stopped in the mixed zone after Lyon’s 2-1 victory.
Mata: “If we lose tomorrow, you’ll all be there tearing us down.”
A great night for Lyon?
It’s clear we couldn’t have dreamed of anything better. Coming here to the Parc, and scoring two goals from our first two chances. It’s the best possible start.
Did you work to hurt this team?
We know they’re a team with a lot of quality and they like to have the ball. We also knew we could hurt them when we win it back, break their press, and find space. There were one-on-one situations to exploit.
An exciting end to the season for you?
Yes, but that’s football. If we lose tomorrow, you’ll all be there tearing us down. We have to stay humble; there are still four finals to go. We can’t get carried away.
But this victory feels good?
Yes, definitely. Not many people believed in us to come here and win in such style.
Were you surprised to see PSG’s lack of response?
That’s not my problem (smiles).
Mata: “Their coach made the decision for his reasons. We came here to play at 100%.”
Lyon plays in streaks; can you finish very strong?
We have to stay calm, remain very humble. There are four matches left; we’ll see where we stand at the end.
Endrick’s performance?
His goal immediately put us on the back foot. He’s a young player with a lot of talent; he’s still learning. He gives his all for the team. This is his first season with so much playing time. He was decisive, we’re happy for him.
A revamped PSG?
(smiles) You know, tonight we have the 3 points. We never asked them to change the team. It was their coach who decided for his reasons. We came here to play at 100%.
Did Endrick and Moreira play closer together?
It was a tactical decision; they needed to be close to each other to be able to hurt the defense.
