Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain (2nd), held a press conference this Friday ahead of facing Metz (18th) at the Parc des Princes tomorrow (kick-off at 9:05 pm, CET) as part of the 23rd matchday of Ligue 1 2025-2026. On the sidelines of this event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “We have the resilience that defines us.”
What are the key takeaways from the victory in Monaco?
It was a very unusual match, like the competition as a whole. The way we started was incredible; it was amazing to concede two goals in the two moments they overcame the pressure. It was 100% efficiency. I analyzed the match, and it was a very good one. With the same mentality, we have the resilience that defines us. We were down 2-0 and missed a penalty, but the team continued to play the same way. The incredible support from the fans was incredible. In the end, we won the match. It’s a shame we only scored three goals; I think we deserved more, but it’s still very good.
Luis Enrique: “They have an inner strength that I can’t explain.”
Does mental strength develop in training, in matches, or in everyday life?
I don’t know (smiles). If I think back to my career, when you start with a 2-0 lead in the Champions League, you lose 3 or 4-0, with a red card, because you can’t control your emotions. But these players are incredible; they have an inner strength I can’t explain.
I remember that as a player, frustration sets in during a match like that. But these players are different. They’re very good people, not just very good players. The mentality is different. I’ve spoken to the players about this; it’s not normal to experience this.
Metz are struggling, but who caused problems in the first leg?
Our situation in the league is that we’re not top, so we have to put on the pressure and win. It’s important and difficult. I can’t remember any match against the bottom team that was easy. We have to prepare well. It will be difficult, but it will be at the Parc des Princes, and we want to prepare well so we can come back to the Champions League in the best possible shape.
