This Thursday, as part of the 2025 Champions Trophy, Paris Saint-Germain faced Olympique de Marseille in Kuwait. Benjamin Pavard, the 29-year-old Marseille defender, spoke to Ligue1+ after PSG’s penalty shootout victory (2-2, then 4-1 on penalties).
Pavard: “I think we deserved to win.”
What are your feelings?
Disappointed, because we were just minutes away from bringing the trophy back to Marseille. I think we deserved to win; we pressed well, we created a lot of chances, we found openings. Unfortunately, that goal at the end was a real pain.
I’m taking away the positives from this match and I’m very proud of my teammates, those who started and those who came on as substitutes. I’m proud of them; we need to build on this match to get through the rest of the season. But I’m proud of the team.
Pavard: “We need to build on this match.”
Why did you concede that goal to make it 3-1?
I need to review the footage. It was a ball behind our defense; we need to manage that better. We had opportunities to score more goals, and we didn’t take them. We need to build on this to get going. There are important matches coming up. We’re still in all competitions, so we need to build on this match. We have to move forward.
