On Monday at the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain suffered a frustrating elimination against Paris FC in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France (0-1). Some pointed to a lack of determination on PSG’s part, and former Parisian full-back Grégory Paisley (now a sports commentator) responded in Le Parisien.
Paisley: “It’s more of a side effect in my opinion.”
“I don’t think they became complacent. We saw it in their attitude. Kvara gave everything, Ramos put in the defensive work, Zaïre-Emery gave his all, but it just wasn’t going their way. Sometimes you try to explain the inexplicable, but you just didn’t have your usual luck. It’s more of a side effect in my opinion.”
A defeat that was difficult to imagine, both before and even during the match. PSG clearly dominated, creating numerous clear-cut chances, but failed to convert them. Unfortunately, it took only one action for PFC to score the winning goal and eliminate the defending champions in the Round of 32 of this derby. While it’s a tough pill to swallow, that’s football.
A major blow for PSG, who can no longer dream of a second consecutive domestic treble. They now need to regroup and focus on what lies ahead. The only good news is that, starting today, the capital club will have a slightly lighter schedule for the coming weeks, something that hasn’t been the case for over a year.
