A thunderbolt at the Parc des Princes! Paris Saint-Germain were eliminated by their city rivals, Paris FC, in the second derby of the year, in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. Indeed, against a very compact defensive block, Luis Enrique’s players never managed to find the back of the net, and it was a former PSG youth player who delivered the final blow, scoring the only goal of the match against his boyhood club at the very end of the second half (0-1). PSG striker Gonçalo Ramos spoke to beIN SPORTS and was particularly incensed with the refereeing:
Ramos: “There are other competitions we want to win, and we’re going to focus on those.”
What to make of the elimination?
Our team played their game. Well done to them. And then the referee let the unsportsmanlike conduct continue, said nothing from beginning to end, just let it go. It shouldn’t happen like that. Referees are there to enforce the rules and prevent this kind of play. We’re here to play. It’s not very pleasant to see that.
Did the schedule play a role?
Yes, but that’s not an excuse. We’re ready, we’re a top-level team. Now it’s done, there’s nothing more to be done. There are other competitions we want to win, and we’re going to focus on those.
