This 17th matchday of Ligue 1 had a special significance for Parisians, who rediscovered a derby between the two capital clubs 47 years later. On Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain hosted Paris FC. And despite a very compact defensive block from PFC, the Red and Blue managed to prevail and assert their dominance (2-1). Stéphane Gilli, coach of Paris Football Club, spoke to Ligue1+ about this derby and this defeat:
Gilli: “I’m proud of the image we projected.”
You have nothing to be ashamed of?
That’s what I told my players. I’m proud of their performance, even though at halftime I told them we lacked precision and character. We need to be more accurate on three or four balls, and that’s what we did better in the second half. After that, we had a few chances and a bit more control. We can’t be satisfied with this defeat, but against such a good team, it’s encouraging.
Are you proud even though Luis Enrique was complaining about his players’ lack of control?
Yes, plus I was missing a few players. I’m proud of the players who played and gave a good image of the club. The longer the match went on, the more we played with freedom. It’s good to have equalized, but then we conceded a second goal. I’m proud of the image we’ve left after many years without a derby. I can’t be satisfied with the defeat, but we came away with a good result.
