Luis Enrique, coach of Paris Saint-Germain (1st), held a press conference this Friday ahead of tomorrow’s match against Troyes (16th) at the Parc des Princes (kick-off at 9:05 PM, CET), as part of the 10th round of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. On the sidelines of this event, the Spaniard also spoke to PSG TV.
Luis Enrique: “There are things in football that simply cannot be explained.”
A great match against Villarreal—but is it also important to remain calm?
It was an unusual match—not the norm. It’s not typical for a team to score four goals in such a short span, effectively ending the contest. It felt almost bizarre, and it was a difficult game to play. I don’t particularly enjoy matches like that, even though I’d always rather win than lose. Under normal circumstances, there wouldn’t be such a gap between the two sides. Much like the games against Lens and Como, it was an anomaly.
This can happen to any team. There are things in football that simply cannot be explained. I’ve already put what happened against Villarreal behind me; it has no bearing on what comes next. Up next is Troyes—it will be a tough match, even if some people might assume it’ll be easy. When expectations are this high, I tend to get concerned.
Luis Enrique: “The most important thing isn’t the trophies or the victories; it’s the feeling that remains.”
Was there a sense of collective joy—bridging different generations—within the dressing room?
They’re all young! (laughs) Even Marquinhos, our most experienced player, is still very young. There might be a ten-year age gap, but they’re all young—both in life and in football. Take Boly’s goal: when he scored, you could see the reaction from all the other players—Fabian, Pacho, and the rest—they were genuinely thrilled for him. It shows that we are a true team, and that we are stronger when we’re together. Everyone was happy; that’s what our team is all about. It was a beautiful moment to witness. Even the entire coaching staff was excited, shouting, “Boly scored!”
Ultimately, it’s not about the trophies or the wins—it’s about the lasting sentiment that remains in the relationships between people. Helping one another through difficulties—that’s what it’s about. If we get to celebrate, great; but there will be times when there’s no celebration—yet you still have your teammates. That’s the best feeling. And giving to one another.
Luis Enrique: “It would be the first time we’ve won every match between two international breaks.”
Won’t it be easy tomorrow?
Certainly not. We’re expecting a team that’s struggling in the standings. We always prepare the same way, with an extra bit of motivation when playing at the Parc des Princes. We want to keep this positive run going. It would be the first time we’ve won every match between two international breaks. That’s an added incentive to perform at our absolute best.
