This Thursday morning, we learned that Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, has been indicted in the Lagardère affair (which has nothing to do with PSG). According to RMC Sport, this has provoked a certain amount of anger on the Qatari side, with the threat of a complete departure from French soccer and the Parisian club. But this last point was denied by journalist Ben Jacobs and L’Equipe.
“The reality is completely different. For several months now, the State of Qatar, via its various funds, has been diversifying its investments. France is already no longer QSI’s (Qatar Sports Investments) preferred playground.
It’s just that there’s been a long-standing process of reconsidering the country’s investments in France, which is not directly linked to recent events”, we were told.”
So we’re a long way from a departure in the making, an old idea that comes back from time to time for tension and drama. The indictment of Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, even if he is far from being convicted, was obviously a good opportunity.
But there’s no basis for it. Qatar is continuing its development and is not letting go of its big project at PSG. That would be strange after such important advances. Including the new training center in Poissy. And the general state of the club, which seems to be heading in an excellent direction. As always, we must remain cautious in the face of rumours and keep a certain distance.
