Since Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, there have been several rumours of a possible departure. Possibly just after the 2022 World Cup. This was eventually put to one side, but L’Equipe revives the idea this Thursday morning.
“We follow the French champion’s daily life with a pronounced detachment”.
“At the Princely Palace in Doha, the French champion’s daily life has been followed with a pronounced detachment since the end of the 2022 World Cup. The capital club is no longer seen as a priority.
This relative distancing – bearing in mind that only major transfers (Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Messi…) or strategic decisions have historically been made by Emir Tamim ben Hamad al-Thani – is accompanied by a reduction in investment. A decline reinforced by a growing weariness with the attitudes of overpaid stars.
“The Emir would sell if there was a good offer.
This does not mean that Qatar is planning to pull out. Although some sources close to the circles of power in Doha assure us that the Emir would be a seller in the event of a good offer, President Nasser al-Khelaïfi remains the boss of PSG and continues to manage – often from a distance too, given his multiple hats – the club’s affairs.”
We can agree with the sports newspaper that it’s not impossible that QSI might listen to a “nice offer”. That’s the definition of the latter. If it’s “good”, it means it’s interesting. And therefore a sale is possible.
The question is how much money is needed to achieve this status, whether the offer is likely to arrive soon, and whether QSI is looking for a buyer, or whether it would take a rather daring initiative on the part of a buyer.
For the moment, there’s not the slightest sign of a sale, even though the new Poissy training center has just been unveiled to great fanfare. Above all, there’s a relaunched project for 2023 with a different approach.
Perhaps some “stars” are missing at the moment in the eyes of observers and investors, but we also need to agree to relaunch a healthier base for the team to really move forward. Right now, we’re in a bit of a slump due to some disappointing results. It’s an opportunity to start rumours all over the place. Let’s remain cautious and let PSG work.
