Adrien Rabiot, the 29-year-old who joined Paris Saint-Germain a few years ago, spoke to Téléfoot. Now that he has decided to move to rivals Olympique de Marseille, Parisian fans are not being kind to him. He recalls that during his last year in Paris, nobody came to his defense when he was in the “closet”. Among other things, he asks them to stop insulting him on social networks and focus on soccer.
Rabiot “When I was at PSG they gave me nothing”.
“I’m not going to lie to you, when I was at PSG they gave me nothing. They didn’t do me any favours, they didn’t support me any more than that. So now, after five years at Juventus Turin, to say: we pampered him.
It’s nothing like that. When I was in my last season, in the cupboard, the fans didn’t come to my defense to get me out of there.
Rabiot “I can understand that I may have disappointed people who had the Rabiot-PSG image”.
After a while, you have to stop being hypocritical. I made that decision. The only thing I don’t understand is the lack of respect on the networks. You can be disappointed, but I don’t accept that.
The rest is soccer, and I accept that. It’s sad to see things like that. It’s only soccer, and there are other more important things, as I’m well aware. But I can understand that I may have disappointed people who had the Rabiot-PSG image.”
It’s disappointing to see him go to Marseille, but it’s his choice, his right, and of course, insults shouldn’t exist. Why waste time insulting when there are so many important things in life? In making this choice, he’s obviously disappointed, and that’s understandable. But the fact remains that he’s right, the fans didn’t let him get away with anything in his final year.
We can understand his resentment, especially as PSG is clearly not his favourite club. Any Paris fan will tell you: it’s impossible to sign for Marseille. Unless, of course, the player does not belong to his home club.
In any case, let’s stop the insults, Rabiot doesn’t deserve this, nobody does. We need to refocus on the pitch and continue to show him that PSG is a great club and that he’s only joined a second-rate club.
