French tennis great Richard Gasquet, who is nearing the end of his career, spoke to Le Parisien on Monday about his love for Paris Saint-Germain. Particularly coach Luis Enrique.
Gasquet “no one is at a standstill.”
“The greatest joy you’ve experienced at PSG ?
There’s no one moment in particular. It’s all those years at the Parc des Princes, seeing matches, great teams. And this year is crazy! They finished 15th in the group phase, all the lads have progressed and this is the season when there are the fewest stars. Luis Enrique has really pulled it off. Now, when you’re in the final. You want to win it.
What do you like about this team?
There’s an intensity, all the guys are running. They’re all going flat out. There’s a lot of repetition, no one’s standing still. It’s the real high level, it plays well.”
It’s always nice to see a sports personality express his attachment and admiration for PSG in this way, and many fans will be able to identify with Gasquet’s words. The love for the club has always been there, but it’s particularly pleasing to be back with a team like this.
There’s the game, of course, but also (and above all?) the collective effort. Offensively and defensively, all the players are involved and contribute to the team’s success. All this with a solid serenity to react well in the face of difficulties.
In this way, PSG overcame major obstacles and enabled individual players to grow and assert themselves. A joy to be continued in Saturday’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.
