Paris Saint-Germain travelled to face AS Saint-Étienne on Saturday as part of Ligue 1 Matchday 27 (1-6). On the sidelines of the match, Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique spoke to PSG TV about his side’s success.
Enrique “I’m pleased with our defensive mentality”.
“I’m very satisfied, but less so with the start of the game, because Saint-Étienne played with a lot of intensity. I think by the end of the first half we were playing at our level, and the second half was sensational, with lots of situations and goals.
I’m pleased with our defensive mentality, which was very interesting. We need to take advantage of these lessons for the matches against Dunkirk and Aston Villa coming up.”
While the first half was not the most convincing for PSG, with the Stéphanois also putting in a fine performance, it was undoubtedly one of the best second halves of the season. Pressing, intense and realistic, the Parisians did everything they could to turn the match in their favor.
In these conditions, it’s difficult to be critical and to pick up on the few negative points of the first half. All in all, this away win is very positive, and above all puts PSG in the best possible position to prepare for the final two months of high-intensity competition.
