Paris Saint-Germain beat RB Salzburg 0-3 this Tuesday at the Red Bull Arena as part of matchday 6 of the Champions League 2024-2025 league phase. After the match, Paris defender Lucas Hernandez spoke in the mixed zone. The 28-year-old was delighted with the win, which is very important for his team’s ranking and confidence, with 2 big games still to come.

Hernandez “It’s true that there’s a sense of relief.”

“It was very important to leave here with victory. We saw from the start that we were confident and wanted the win. We got the job done, even if we could have scored a few more goals.

I hope this is the start of a long road in the Champions League. It’s true that there’s a sense of relief because the match was almost decisive for us, and we couldn’t afford to miss out. We’ll have to keep up the momentum in the January games and go out there and win them.

Hernandez: “We know what we have to do for the next few games.

City and Stuttgart?

They’ll be two big games, against two big teams, but at least we know that for the first one, we’ll be able to count on the crowd, our 12th man. We’ve been talking a lot about our inefficiency recently, and we’re working hard every day to sort that out.

But it’s like anything else, once you start scoring, things usually follow suit. It’s true that we could have scored more. But at least we know what to do for the next few games.”

PSG didn’t put in an absolutely fantastic performance. There’s still room for improvement, both in terms of play and finishing. The victory over Salzburg wasn’t particularly impressive. They were a modest opponent.

However, it’s still something to savour and essential for the future. The Parisians needed points and confidence. They’ll be able to feel more confident in their day-to-day work and in their upcoming matches. Particularly in front of goal. And that can make all the difference.

For, despite some critics who fail to take into account “details” such as the quality of play or the number of chances created, there were already some very good things from PSG’s side this season. What was lacking was efficiency, both in choice and execution.

It’s a fact that undermines confidence, which in turn undermines the quality of the finish when it’s lacking. The 3 goals should help, even if there’s still work to be done. On the domestic stage and in the Champions League, PSG have some big matches to prepare for. Let’s hope they can keep it up.
