Paris Saint-Germain beat RB Salzburg 0-3 this Tuesday at the Red Bull Arena as part of matchday 6 of the Champions League 2024-2025 league phase. After the match, Parisian president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi expressed his relief and unwavering support for his coach in the mixed zone.

Al-Khelaïfi “In soccer, if you don’t score it’s difficult”

“I’ve always been confident. It was a very important match for us, decisive. We had to win if we wanted to continue in the Champions League. It was clear to everyone. We played well, and this time we scored. In soccer, it’s difficult if you don’t score. We weren’t lucky enough to score against PSV or Atlético, but we played well. We play well every game.

Al-Khelaïfi: “It’ll give us a lot of confidence for the future”.

The last game (against Auxerre) we played well even if we drew, even if we didn’t score. Today (Tuesday), we dominated the whole game again. It’s a match to give hope to everyone. It’ll give us a lot of confidence for the future. The last two games (in the Champions League) are finals. Everyone knows that. With our supporters, our stadium, it’s going to be important.

Luis Enrique?

The best coach in the world. We’ve built a long-term project with him. He knows that. Everyone knows it. I have every confidence in him.”

Some would say that Al-Khelaïfi is excessive. When he didn’t support his coaches, he was considered the worst president in soccer. Now that he supports his coach, he’s seen as the worst president in the world. Whatever happens, nothing ever goes right. That said, the interesting thing about the Parisian president is that he doesn’t care about the noise around him. He’s decided on something, and he’s sticking to it.

For once… The victory must have been a relief, we mustn’t forget that. What would have happened if he’d lost? We won’t know (yet?). Now, to qualify, there’s still work to be done. Hope has returned, and now we need to turn those good vibes into reality. We can’t wait to see what happens next, and we’re hoping to qualify so that we can continue to dream of the LDC this year.

Let’s face it, defeat would have been a tsunami. Despite the President’s words before the game, a defeat would have been a major media splash. Paris has bought itself a truce, and that’s going to be good for the matches to come. There are still some great fixtures in Ligue 1 at the end of the year, including Lyon and Monaco. It’s on these playing fields that PSG should test themselves before joining City for a crucial match.
