Since the start of the season, injuries have been piling up at Paris Saint-Germain (but not only). The international break in September took its toll, as did the following week. The Parisians have had a few days off, but L’Equipe‘s update on the infirmary this Thursday is not a happy one. In addition to Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe and Gonçalo Ramos, who are already out for tomorrow’s meeting with Rennes and Tuesday’s game against Arsenal, there are 4 other uncertainties for this second match: Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Asensio, Désiré Doué and Vitinha.
Nothing long-term, but absences that are not yet over.
“In the latest medical bulletin, the Parisian club announced that Gianluigi Donnarumma would remain in ‘care this week’. The Italian, who suffered a muscular injury, has not reappeared since. In addition to his absence against Rennes, the question now arises as to whether he will start in Arsenal’s first Champions League clash.
Marco Asensio, who suffered a thigh injury against Girona, did not take part in yesterday’s session. Once again, his presence in England is unlikely.
Désiré Doué, with an ankle injury, will not play tomorrow. It’s hard to imagine the U-21 international being available for the C1. Vitinha, who had to deal with a foot injury for his country, was not at training yesterday. There’s no major cause for concern, he’s doing his individual work, but the Portuguese’s case does raise questions.”
There’s no need to worry or dramatize just yet, which is the tendency in L’Equipe. But with a number of players absent from training yesterday, there are bound to be doubts about the upcoming match against Arsenal.
Forfeits against Rennes are all but a foregone conclusion, since we can’t imagine the staff taking the slightest risk. For the clash in England, there is still hope. Even if we already have to think about other solutions, especially as the players may not be at 100% for a trip that will require them to be in top form.
We should find out more today around 11am, with the medical update published by PSG (and shared on our website).
