Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg faced off this Saturday at the Stade de la Meinau for the 7th matchday of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season. The encounter ended in a 1-3 victory for the Parisians. Following the match, Strasbourg head coach Hugo Oliveira spoke to Ligue1+.
Oliveira: “You need the right ability to make the right decisions.”
How do you feel after this defeat?
It was a difficult match; we knew they were a very good side. They have many quality players. We played well for 80 minutes—we remained humble, worked hard, and managed to close down spaces, which was crucial because the opposition looks to exploit gaps in the middle.
We were well-organized and managed to score a goal; we even had other chances to add to our tally—but that’s how football goes. You need the right ability to make the right decisions and to take your chances at key moments.
Oliveira: “We must learn from this match and keep working.”
Stability is vital, and I think our lapses in concentration created instability. I can say that the players worked incredibly hard against a very strong opponent, and the substitutions brought a great deal of quality and energy. We need to learn from this match and keep working for the future.
Regarding Diop being taken off—it wasn’t entirely clear why, given how well he was performing in midfield?
That was the doctor’s decision. He’s a player who holds the team together; he has the ability to connect everyone when we’re in possession. Every player put in a massive shift for the team. When we win, we win together, and when we lose, we lose together.
