Paris Saint-Germain and Strasbourg faced off this Sunday at the Parc des Princes in Matchday 20 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for PSG. After the game, Strasbourg coach Gary O’Neil spoke to Ligue1+.
O’Neil: “We’re proud, but we didn’t get what we deserved.”
The first half was very good, less so the second. How do you explain that?
We played a very good match, but PSG is, of course, very strong. It’s very difficult to maintain the same level throughout the entire match. They didn’t have many chances. We were a bit better after the red card, but we were punished on a counter-attack. We had more opportunities, and I’m very happy about that. We had a good connection.” We’re proud, but we didn’t get what we deserved.
O’Neil: “PSG is strong, they caused problems, but so did we.”
What change did you make when you were down to 10 men?
We didn’t have time to work on that in three weeks. We need to maintain our structure, stay calm, and take our time. We tried to have more control. We have a young group that’s eager to work, which is great. We lost against the best team in Europe, so it’s difficult. But we managed to hold our own. PSG is strong, they caused problems, but so did we.
Will Mamadou Sarr be leaving?
I don’t know, I was focused on the match. He’s a great player, very important. I’d like to keep him, but I don’t know. I want to prepare for the next match. It’s not my decision. I’m going to coach the team I have as best I can.
Marseille, Lyon, and Lens coming up—a tough schedule?
Yes, that’s true. But PSG is the best team in the world, and we’ve caused them problems. We need to build on that.
