Paris Saint-Germain defeated Strasbourg 2-1 this Sunday at the Stade de la Meinau in Matchday 20 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Enrique: “We won, and I don’t know if it was deserved.”
Did you secure this victory through sheer grit?
“Yes. But if we had lost the match, would there have been no grit? We were fortunate to win this match when everyone thought it was impossible. We’ve shown for the past three years that we’re a team that fights. We weren’t very precise. We had a very weak first half.
We improved in the second half. We controlled the game in the opposition’s half. I congratulate Strasbourg. They’re a very good team, with young players I really like.” We won, and I don’t know if it was deserved. It’s very good for us.
How do you analyze Safonov’s performance?
“I’ve had many goalkeepers in my coaching career who have saved penalties. But he’s the best I’ve ever had in that area. His ability to anticipate the side, the position chosen, where the shooter is going to strike, is very important.”
Enrique: “We were lucky enough to create a very good attacking move.”
How do you explain the end of the match with ten men against eleven?
“It changed the game because we no longer had the ball. We defended with a low block, which is unusual for us. We looked for counter-attacks. We were lucky enough to create a very good attacking move. Thanks to the introduction of Kang-In Lee, Désiré Doué, and Ousmane Dembélé as well.”
Can Kang-In Lee aspire to a more important role?
“He has this ability to change the ball’s direction under pressure, without losing possession. He makes good plays, he’s taken some good shots. He was important when he came on.”
How do you analyze your opponent, RC Strasbourg?
“They don’t play against us the same way they play against other opponents. It was complicated, just like at the Parc des Princes.”
