Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with the match between Paris Saint-Germain (1st in Ligue 1) and Dunkerque (4th in Ligue 2) this Tuesday at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, as part of the semi-finals of the Coupe de France 2024-2025 (kick-off 9.10pm, UTC+1).
5 – A bit of a change.
We still love Ligue 1 and the Champions League, but there are bound to be some opponents we see on a regular basis. Dunkerque is a novelty, and it’s good to get to know some of the players, the atmosphere of the fans and so on. It’s refreshing, and we’re not going to sulk.
4 – A reunion
It’s a well-known story: Yacine Yac (a 33-year-old striker who played for Nantes) was a salesman in PSG’s official store. It’s always a great reunion, with a past that will no doubt be evoked again by the commentators, and above all a great moment for him. It’s also a special match for Alex Georgen, the 26-year-old right-back who trained with Paris and left in 2019, and is now with Dunkerque.
3 – Rehearsal for the Champions League?
With Ligue 1 all but won and the suspense still there, the Champions League returns next week with the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa on Wednesday April 9 (return on the 15th). Of course, the match against Angers on Saturday (Ligue 1 matchday 28) will also be on the cards, and could serve to set the pace. But we know that Europe will already be on our minds.
This match, even if it’s against a Ligue 2 opponent, should be used to get back into the swing of things, work on our automatisms and build on our strengths. All the ingredients for a fine PSG.
2 – The atmosphere of the Coupe de France.
It’s a special competition, with different divisions going head-to-head, and the cup falling at the end. It’s a great way to experience soccer, with a special energy. It would be a shame to miss out. All the more so in the beautiful Stade Pierre-Mauroy, which should provide an interesting atmosphere.
1 – A place in the final up for grabs.
The stories, the atmosphere… They’re all great things. But first and foremost, this is a semi-final, with a final at the end (against AS Rannes or Reims) at the Stade de France. So it’s a very important match, with the trophy just around the corner. We mustn’t miss this new stage.
