Here is our ongoing series: 5 good reasons to tune in to a match. Before every game, we highlight the most compelling aspects with a mix of seriousness and humor—though, mind you, we aren’t aiming for an exhaustive analysis. Next up is the match featuring Paris Saint-Germain (8th place) this Friday against Lille (3rd place) at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, part of Matchday 2 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season (kick-off at 8:45 PM; CET).

5 – Lille has changed, too.

Like many Ligue 1 clubs, LOSC has made some significant changes heading into the 2026-2027 season. Most notably at the managerial position, where Davide Ancelotti has replaced Bruno Génésio, who left for Olympique de Marseille. It’s a chance to discover a new-look opponent and gauge how the league is evolving—hopefully in a positive direction—while seeing if PSG has found the winning formula.

4 – What kind of rotation?

With few matches early in the season, PSG has time to prepare. That’s a luxury, but it brings its own challenges. Players need match rhythm to build momentum, making minute management crucial. Some players may also need a breather. We can therefore expect a few changes to the starting lineup, though it’s hard to predict exactly which ones. It’s always fascinating to follow coach Luis Enrique’s choices, which take internal competition into account.

3 – Ferran Torres to start?

The 26-year-old forward was one of the last players to join training, so it’s unclear if he’s ready to start. However, given the competition for places, it’s certainly possible. His substitute appearance against Rennes last Sunday was impressive; he contributed significantly to the play and scored a brace. It’s tempting to see him in the starting XI this time around. But we know it isn’t always that simple.

2 – What role for Maghnes Akliouche?

The 24-year-old midfielder/forward, who arrived from Monaco this summer, possesses great versatility—an asset both for coach Luis Enrique and for securing playing time. He is also a fascinating player to watch as the team develops. He has already played as a false nine and out on the right flank, and came on in midfield against Rennes. It remains to be seen whether he will start or come off the bench; this is another interesting aspect to monitor regarding his integration and the strength of the Paris squad.

1 – The champions need to push on.

There is no need to overreact to the draw at Rennes—the performance and the reaction to going 2-0 down were actually quite encouraging—but PSG need to pick up points to avoid falling behind clubs that might win their first two games. It is better to avoid pressure and not give rivals false hope. Lille are one such rival; there is no room for error.
