Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Saturday against Lens (5th) at the Parc des Princes as part of Matchday 10 of Ligue 1 2024-2025 ( kick-off 5pm, PSG/Lens broadcast on beIN SPORTS in France).
5. Taking the lead in Ligue 1
Monaco’s defeat was good news for PSG (less so for the media), who had been raving about PSG’s poor start to the season. With a three-point lead over the runners-up, whatever happens, this match against Lens will have a double value: the prestige of yet another victory against a direct rival, and the flavour of knowing that all opponents are within 6 points.
4. Asensio, Lee, Dembélé: a chance to show their mettle before Ramos’ return takes shape
In the absence of the Portuguese (who has yet to prove his worth in Paris), the forwards are scoring and getting goals, but there’s still work to be done and doubts. We’re hoping that this match against Lens, which won’t be easy, will provide us with another opportunity to see a fiery Parisian attack, as is often the case. We’ll also need to be on one of those days when goals come in.
3. Who will be rested before Atlético de Madrid?
One match follows another and no two are alike. Luis Enrique is used to changing his team regularly, if not all the time.
This match will be another opportunity to observe Luis Enrique’s choices and analyze them after the match. Lens are a team not to be taken lightly, so it won’t be necessary to make too many changes to the starting 11 at once.
2. Remaining unbeaten in France
No defeat this year, in Ligue 1, last year, so you have to go back to May 12 to see Paris lose at home (at the end of the championship). In the last 43 Ligue 1 matches, PSG have lost just 2. It will therefore be interesting to follow this match with this fact in mind, overlooked by many.
Everyone sees PSG as flawed and in doubt, but losing so few games also shows the strength of this team, and Lens will want to join the closed circle of teams who have “beaten” PSG at the Parc des Princes.
1. A guarantee of goals?
PSG have the third-best attack in Europe behind Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. They concede less than a goal a game on average, which is important for the future. Lens, on the other hand, don’t score much, averaging 1 goal a game, and manage not to concede too many.
Yet PSG manage to create numerous chances in every match. They may or may not be smiling, but there will be plenty of room to score goals and put on a show.
