Here’s our saga. The 5 good reasons to follow a match (with some adaptations). We’ll take a look at what’s attractive before each match, with a mix of seriousness and humor. Mind you, this is by no means an exhaustive tour of the subject. We continue here with Paris Saint-Germain’s match this Sunday against Monaco at Stadium 974 as part of the Trophée des Champions 2024 (kick-off 5.30pm, PSG/Monaco broadcast on DAZN).
5 – Paris wins the Champions Trophy again?
It’s become the PSG Trophy. In recent years, Paris has often won the trophy hands down. This is another opportunity to win it again and hurt Monaco’s head. Paris have all the cards in their hands to play a great match and win. Monaco will be determined to win.
4 – A match played in Qatar (at home for PSG?)
The relocation of the match to Doha is in line with Qatar’s strategy of promoting its image through sport. It also illustrates Qatar’s growing influence in French soccer, offering an interesting perspective on the geopolitical stakes of modern sport.
With names flocked in Arabic (a first), this match will be well worth the detour. On and off the pitch, the match will be intense. It’s a “quick” title to go for.
3 – An explosive reunion.
After PSG’s 4-2 win in the Principality on December 18, the two teams meet again with a desire for revenge and confirmation. Monaco will need to find the right keys, while PSG will need to come back strongly after the break, which may have broken their momentum. Whatever happens, it’s a match that’s worth its weight in gold, as PSG can continue to knock their rivals on the head by scoring the winning goal.
2 – Doué again, after a promising end to the year.
One of the key players at the end of 2024 is Désiré Doué. He has shown that he can be more than just an understudy, and if he maintains a high level of performance, he could well be considered a major recruit for this winter mercato. It’s up to him to build on the momentum.
1 – Preparing Manchester City
If the Champions Trophy is an important match, the one coming up at the end of the month against City is even more so. PSG need to rebuild their momentum, learn to score goals and continue to develop their automatisms for the big matches. City are coming up fast, and we mustn’t let them get ahead of themselves.
