Here is our ongoing series: 5 great reasons to tune in to the match. We’ll be highlighting the most compelling aspects before every game, mixing serious analysis with a touch of humor. Note that this isn’t intended to be an exhaustive preview. Next up is the match between Paris Saint-Germain (6th) and Le Mans (9th) this Saturday at the Parc des Princes, part of Matchday 6 of the 2026-2027 Ligue 1 season (kick-off at 8:45 PM; CET).
5 – Le Mans: a newly promoted side that has come a long way.
After dropping to the DH (the sixth tier at the time) following financial liquidation in 2013, it was hard to imagine Le Mans making it back to Ligue 1—let alone doing so relatively quickly, given the obstacles they had to overcome. They had to fight to make their comeback this summer, aided by the arrival of major investors earlier in the year. It was enough to put that earlier collapse firmly in the past, all while getting off to a strong start in Ligue 1—in terms of both performance and results.
4 – The long-awaited return!
This special international break has the advantage of avoiding three interruptions before winter, yet it has been particularly long. Two weekends without club football is tough. The season is getting underway, and we want to keep the momentum going. Finally, we’re back to PSG and the competitions that usually set the rhythm of our weeks.
3 – Can Marquinhos hold onto second place in the goalscoring charts?
Marquinhos, a central defender (and 32-year-old captain), is currently PSG’s second-highest scorer this season with three goals. It is an impressive feat for the Brazilian, but also a sign that the attacking players are somewhat struggling for form (with the exception of Ferran Torres, who has already scored seven goals). Things will need to be set right gradually, starting tonight.
2 – Which PSG will we see?
With the international break over and the Champions League returning on Wednesday against Manchester City, it is hard to predict which version of PSG will take the field—both in terms of the starting lineup and their level of play. Restarting can be a bit peculiar, but the Parisians know they need the three points, and every player must individually make their mark in the face of stiff competition.
1 – 1. Move towards first place and safety.
As just mentioned, PSG needs points to climb the standings. That determination must be evident on the pitch, regardless of the surrounding circumstances. For Le Mans, the primary goal is survival. They have made a promising start to the season, but it is far too early to rest easy; pulling off a feat at the Parc des Princes would certainly be a huge boost.
