Matvey Safonov, Paris Saint-Germain’s 25-year-old goalkeeper, stopped by the mixed zone after the 0-1 win over Toulouse (video highlights Toulouse/PSG) this Saturday at the Stadium as part of the 22nd day of Ligue 1 2024-2025. He talked about the match, his adaptation, and the competition for the goalkeeping position.
Safonov: “We have the players to win these games”.
Was this a difficult match between two Champions League fixtures ?
“It was a difficult match for us. 0-1 the whole game is difficult nervously. But we have the players to win these games and the coach can make changes so that the eleven changes. We’ve got some very good players.”
How do you feel in this group ?
“I feel very good, much more comfortable because I’m starting to speak French and I can communicate with my teammates. So today I’m much better. And I think it’s going to continue like that.”
Safonov “We have three good goalkeepers and all of them can be first-choice.”
How are the French lessons going ?
“Good, I try to do it 2-3 times a week, but from time to time it’s difficult because we have a lot of matches. I don’t always have the time.”
How is the relationship with Gianluigi and Arnau ?
“It’s a healthy competition. We’ve got three good goalkeepers and all of them can start. In these conditions we have to be calm, quiet and work well because we know that everyone is waiting to play. It’s a new level, but it’s important for me to be together and play well.”
