Toulouse FC played host to Pars Saint-Germain on Saturday evening, the 22nd day of Ligue 1. A match in which the Rouge et Bleu had been spared a few days ahead of the Champions League. And it was against a very compact defensive block that the Parisians prevailed 0-1 (video highlights Toulouse/PSG), continuing their run of 19 consecutive games without defeat. Vincent Sierro, Téfécé midfielder, spoke to DAZN after the match about how he felt against such a tough opponent:
Sierro: “They’re very aggressive when they lose the ball”.
You managed to muzzle the Parisians in the first half, but was it more complicated in the second?
Yes, it was a bit like the match we’d been waiting for. PSG had a lot of control and we knew we’d have our chances on the counter if we played well. We know they’re very aggressive when they lose the ball. We had a few chances, but unfortunately we conceded a goal from a corner early in the second half. After that, they were in control of the game and it’s very complicated.
What’s it like on the pitch against this team?
In theory, the coach said we had to accept the frustration of not having the ball. When you look at the ball, they’re very good at recovering it, but when you manage to get out of the first curtain, you manage to create chances. It’s not easy.
“I hope they go far in the Champions League”.
You concede a goal on your strongest moment? You were pretty good in your weakest period.
As you say, when they get the ball back, they come on very strong. You manage to find their backs very quickly, but it’s hard because you’re running and running. It’s a shame to take the car you stopped, but that’s part of soccer and Paris is a very good team. We wanted to set up a system where we could have chances while being solid defensively. I think that’s exactly what happened.
Is PSG impregnable this year?
They’re doing very well, and you can see that this is Luis Enrique’s second year in charge. They also know each other very well and they want to be even more in control than they were last year. We follow them a lot and it’s great to see them playing like that. On the other hand, when you play against them, it’s difficult because they never rush and that’s hard. I hope they go far in the Champions League.
