Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, failed to fully establish himself with coach Luis Enrique. So he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-2025 season, but was not retained by the English club. After his return, we’re waiting to find out what his future holds. Journalists Fabrizio Romano and Yağız Sabuncuoğlu confirm that the transfer is very close.
Fabrizio Romano :
Yağız Sabuncuoğlu :
“Fenerbahçe have reached an agreement with Marco Asensio after finding common ground with Paris Saint-Germain!
The player has been invited to Istanbul for the medical and official signing!”
All the media reports are pointing in the same direction in a short space of time, with agreements announced between all parties and even a medical check-up now in place. Even if it’s not yet official, it’s hard to doubt this transfer. We can even expect confirmation from a club in the next few days. We’re wary, however, of the timing, which is always very difficult for the media to predict when it can change for a few details.
All the same, there’s every reason to believe that Asensio’s adventure at PSG will soon be officially over. And that’s with a rather disappointing stint. It was an attempt, but it didn’t work. Too bad. It’s still a fairly interesting sale for a player who became a free agent in 2023 following the end of his contract at Real Madrid.
