Dayot Upamecano, a 27-year-old defender for the French national team and Bayern Munich, is at the centre of transfer rumours as his contract expires in June 2026. Paris Saint-Germain has been mentioned in the discussions, as has Real Madrid. Speaking to Sky Sport, Bayern president Herbert Hainer shared his view.
“I’m optimistic about reaching an agreement. I hear that he is very happy at Bayern, he feels very comfortable within the team and feels very good with the coach.”
Club executives are not always entirely transparent with the media, especially when it comes to transfer matters. But one can assume that the German president is not speaking randomly. A misstep could be costly. He is there to reassure supporters, even if he cannot promise anything yet.
The situation is far from settled and a surprise remains possible, but an extension at Bayern is indeed a realistic outcome. It currently appears to be the most likely scenario. And if Upamecano does eventually leave, PSG is far from being the obvious destination — though not an impossible one. For now, we should wait before drawing any firm conclusions, with limited hope at this stage.
