Lucas Chevalier, Lille’s 23-year-old goalkeeper (contract until 2027) and member of the French national team, is rumored to be close to Paris Saint-Germain in this mercato to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma (26, contract until 2026 and blocked extension). L’Equipe claims that LOSC want to find a replacement before opening the door. And there’s a real difficulty encountered.
“In talks with Paris Saint-Germain to recruit Lucas Chevalier, Lille made it clear to the Parisian leaders that the club would first have to find a replacement before finalizing the Frenchman’s departure. LOSC has opened several files in recent days, including that of Robin Roefs.
The 22-year-old Dutchman has not been placed at the top of LOSC’s list, which could benefit Sunderland. The English side have already reached an agreement with NEC Nijmegen, and the transfer could be finalized quickly for €12m.”
One suspects that Lille won’t simply let their first-choice keeper leave for PSG without a definite solution. It makes sense, especially as the competition is coming up fast. This could slow down the arrival of a Parisian goalkeeper, if it ever really has to happen when there’s nothing concrete yet. Let’s not forget that Donnarumma could yet extend his stay in Paris.
In any case, Chevalier has not arrived in the capital. We know that the mercato can speed up quickly, or take a long time. Patience is still the order of the day.
