Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento, often called Dro Fernandez, is reportedly very close to joining Paris Saint-Germain this winter. The 18-year-old midfielder doesn’t want to extend his contract with FC Barcelona, which expires in 2027, and has a €6 million release clause that PSG is expected to trigger. However, the deal is still not finalized, and doubts are emerging. RMC Sport has provided an update, explaining why it hasn’t been signed yet. There’s even some uncertainty about the player’s arrival in Paris.
“The situation continues to drag on, mainly because FC Barcelona is furious about their player’s decision. PSG wants to protect its relationship with the Catalan club. The situation has really strained relations with Barcelona, even though PSG isn’t responsible, as the attacking midfielder has chosen not to play there anymore.”
This saga is reminiscent of Ousmane Dembélé’s situation in 2023. At the time, the future Ballon d’Or winner also triggered his release clause, and the deal took several weeks to materialize.
Is it possible that the deal won’t go through? Some close to the matter aren’t ruling out the possibility, but everyone wants to believe that Dro will sign for Paris.
Until it’s official, it’s not certain. We always say that, and this case is a perfect example. It still seems possible that Dro Fernandez will sign for PSG, except that there hasn’t been any confirmation, and the transfer window closes on February 2nd. So, they shouldn’t delay too long.
Paris might be looking to protect its relationship with Barça, who are understandably unhappy to lose a player. But the young midfielder’s decision to leave isn’t the responsibility of the Parisian club, which is simply taking advantage of this opportunity. Let’s wait and see how it ends; football knows how to surprise.
